EPISODE 1

Shaping a racer, feat Joshua Soderland

SYNOPSIS

Racing has always been in Joshua Soderland’s blood.

Growing up in his father’s workshop, he was surrounded by motorcycles, tools, and a passion for speed.

His family’s deep-rooted connection to bikes—spanning his grandfather, father, and brother—meant that riding was inevitable.

He started young on Peewee 50s, exploring trails before life took him away from the sport. For a time, motorcycles faded into the background, replaced by video games and a sedentary lifestyle that led to weight gain. But the thrill of riding never truly left. When the opportunity arose to return on two wheels, he and his brother convinced their father to support their return.

That decision reignited his passion, leading him to supermoto racing. The early days were tough—his first few races were filled with crashes, but each fall became a lesson in resilience.

Determined to go faster, he committed to improving his fitness. With the guidance of his mentor, Poe, he shed 40kg, transforming not just his body but his racing capabilities.

Progressing from a supermoto to a Daytona 600, then an R1, and eventually a Ducati V4R, he climbed the ranks.

However, superbike racing came with a steep financial burden. His parents made the ultimate sacrifice to keep his dream alive—pulling money from their nearly paid-off house to fund his racing career.

The Australian Superbike Championship (ASBK) transition was a reality check. Racing at that level demanded relentless testing, a massive tire budget, constant travel, and meticulous bike adjustments. But he embraced the challenge, learning from top riders, refining setups, and improving every round.

In 2024, a Yamaha sponsorship brought new opportunities. Switching from Ducati to Yamaha provided a more forgiving setup, allowing him to focus on honing his skills. With 10 ASBK rounds, Soderland is setting his sights on an even stronger 2025 season. His goal remains unchanged—to push his limits, continue learning, and prove that with relentless dedication, anything is possible.
